Callaway. Job Callaway. "The family originated in America when Thomas Callaway was granted 766 acres in Virginia in 1665. His descendant, Colonel John Callaway, was an officer of North Carolina in the American Revolution. John married Bethany Arnold and they had 12 children, according to his will. They settled in Wilkes County, Georgia about 1783-1785. John's uncle Richard Callaway went to Kentucky with Daniel Boone and it was his daughters, Elizabeth and Frances who were captured with Jemima Boone by Indians in 1776. Richard's son, Flanders Callaway, married the daughter of Daniel Boone, Jemima. Callaway County, Kentucky took its name to honor this branch of the family." "Children: Job, John, Jr., Isaac, Enoch, Adda, Nancy, Bethany, Betsy, Pheby, Mary, Lydia and a daughter who married Mr. Whiter. "(the son of John), the Rev. Enoch Callaway, was born in Wilkes County, in 1792. Enoch married in 1811 to Martha Reeves and they had 14 children. Among those fourteen was the Rev. Abner Callaway. The remarkable skills of every branch of the Troup County Callaways were found in the life of Rev. Abner Callaway at one time or the other."[1]

Crenshaw. Cornelius Crenshaw was born ca 1782 Laurens Co., South Carolina, died in Caldwell County, Kentucky. He married Melinda, born in North Carolina, died ca 1855 Sabine, Texas Son: Isaac H. b. 2/12/1824 Alabama, died. 7/7/1884 Panola Co., married 10/23/1845 Dorcas Irene Golden b. Blount Co., Alabama, died ca Panola Co., Texas, daughter of Richard Golden and Mary Higgins Lincoln Co., Ga. They had: Mattie Elizabeth Crenshaw born in Panola Co., Texas d. 10/28/1895 Pano1a Co., Texas, buried Mt. Zion Cemetery married 11/14/1868 George Carter Tiller, born in Harrison Co., Texas, d. 2/19/1930 Panola Co., Texas. Their son: Ray DeWitt Tiller, Sr. born 11/14/1890 Paris Texas, d. 7/12/1937 Carthage, Texas, buried Mt. Zion Cemetery 7/12/1937 Mary Viva Phillips, b. 12/29/1893 Carthage, Texas. Their daughter, Mary Lynn Tiller married Clifford S. heir. [2]

Ligon. William Ligon was born 1682 in Henrico County, Virginia, died 1764 in Amelia County, married Elizabeth Batte, a daughter of Henry Batte and wife, Mary (Lounds) Batte of Prince George County, Virginia.[3] Issue:
  • Captain Joseph Ligon , son of William Ligon,was born ca 1704 in Henrico County, Virginia, died 1752 in Chesterfield County, Virginia. He was married to Judith Stewart who died 1784 in Chesterfield County.
  1. James Ligon, son of Captain Joseph Ligon of Henrico County, Virginia.
  1. Obediah Ligon, the son of James Ligon of Chesterfield County, Virginia, died 1816 in Henderson County, Kentucky. He was married 6/25/1789 in Halifax County, Virginia, Judith Church.
  1. William Rufus Ligon, the son of Obediah Ligon, was born 3/7/1819 in Henderson County, Kentucky, died 10/23/1888. He married 10/20/1859 in Owensboro, Kentucky, Davies County, to Susan Ellen Walkes, born 1840 in Kentucky. Son, John Washington Ligon.
  1. John Washington Ligon, son of William Rufus Ligon, was born 1/16/1865 in Davies County, Kentucky. He married Rachel Barbara Scherffius (1/13/1874-4/9/1934) on 10/1/1890 in Lynnville, Kentucky. Daughter, Mary, born 12/10/1893 in Earlington, Hopkins County, Kentucky, married 11/19/1919 in Morganfield, Kentucky, Levi Richard Cason, Jr.[4]
Love. William Love was a Lieutenant of the 3rd Regiment during the Revolutionary War; resigned 1777.[5] William Love, citizen, received a land grant of 300 acres on the Savannah River 6/11/1784.[6] Another land grant of 150 acres was made on 9/11/1794 to William Love, citizen.
"South Carolina Statesman, John C. Calhoun, had numerous relatives in the area; William Love, for illustration, the early Justice of the Peace, was married to Esther Calhoun, a first cousin to Senator Calhoun."

"the seat of justice first being where Major William Love chose to hold court. This native of South Carolina, being 38 years old, was the eldest justice of the area, but he snored."[7]
Issue:
  1. Esther Love was a daughter of William Love and his wife, Agnes (Long) Calhoun. Esther was born 9/30/1765 in Abbeville, South Carolina and died 3/2/1844 in Crittenden County, Kentucky, buried in the Piney Fork Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemeter near Marion. Esther was listed on the 1810 Caldwell County, Kentucky Census.[8] Children: Nancy, Robert, John, Esther O. (2/25/1795-4/18/1868, married William R. Asher on 8/4/1813); Jane (married W. Alfred Moore on 3/13/1810); William C. (married Honor Tiron 7/24/1817, in War of 1812, U. S. Regulars, 7th Regiment, U. S. Infantry, was a Cumberland Presbyterian Preacher, and was born 3/9/1798, died 4/8/1872).[9]
Moore. Robert Moore, son of Robert (1711-1757), was born 1736, died 1797, married Anne McGehee. Issue:
  1. Captain Benjamin Moore (1759-1831), son of Robert Moore, resided in Powhatan, Virginia. He married Sarah Jones.
  1. Jefferson Moore, son of Captain Benjamin Moore, was born 2//15/1804 in Buckingham County, Virginia, died 9/10/1852 in Christian County, Kentucky. He was married in Christian County, Kentucky to Marion B. Dulin, born 5/25/1807 in Fauquier County, Virginia, died 4/24/1836 in Christian County, Kentucky. Issue:
  1. Captain John William Moore, son of Jefferson Moore, was born 10/20/1830 in Christian County, Kentucky, died 5/5/1900 in Paris, Texas, married 1/22/1851 in Christian County, Kentucky Elizabeth August Calbreath (born 10/8/1830 in Christian County, Kentucky, died 5/28/1914 in Paris, Texas. Their son was Jefferson Moore, born 5/5/1856 in Petty, Texas, died 9/14/1942 in Edmond, Oklahoma, married on 11/18/1844 in Paris, Texas, Mary Elizabeth Baldwin.[10]
Stice. The immigrant, Charles Carl Steiss, was b. ca 1745 in Alsace, Lorraine, Germany and d. 8/21/1801 in Warren Co., Kentucky. He migrated from Germany in 1754, arriving in Philadelphia September 14, 2754 onboard the ship "Nancy." He soon settled in the Broad River area of North Carolina, probably having crossing the Great Philadelphia Wagon Road into North Carolina.[11]

Charles Styce is on record as having received a Land Grant in 1763 for 150 acres on Bullocks Creek in Craven County, South Carolina. Craven Co. is also referred to as having been located in "North Carolina". It must have had something to do with the borders. Charles Stice was ordered to serve as an overseer of a section of the road being laid out from Richardson's Shoals on Second Broad River to the Charles Town Trading Road as per the 1769 Minutes of Tryon County, North Carolina Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions. Soon thereafter, in October of 1778 he was granted leave to build a Grist Mill on the shoals of the Little Broad River, being located on his own land This was called Stice Shoals Dam. His petition to construct the Grist Mill on Little Broad River is filed in Misc. Civil Papers 1771-1776, Tryon Co., N. C., as follows:

"To the worshipful Court of Tryon County in the State of North Carolina :

The petition of Charles Stice humbly sheweth that Whereas your petitioner hath a very conenient place on his own Land or Joyning his own Land at the Sholes of first Little Broad River to Build a mill and as our ______is at much loss for a good mill, your petitioner prayes your Worshipfuls to Grant him an order to Build a publick Mill thereon and and as in Duly Bound your Petitioner Shall Ever Pray." /s/CharlesStice.

We know that he resided in Rutherford Co., N. C., for awhile, because from 1782 to 1799 he was a citizen of Little Broad River (Old Rutherford County), his name appearing on the tax rolls, and Minutes as Petit Juror, and Grand Juror, also as an oversser of roads.

The 1790 Rutherford Co., N. C. Census lists Charles Stice's family, one male over 16 years, 2 males under 16, and six females. His son, Andrew Stice, was also listed on the east side of Beaver Dam Creek, and PhillipStice was listed on the water's of Bill's reek and the southside of Youngs Mountain, with one son under 16, his wife and two daughters.

On March 23, 1799 he sold 240 acres to George Blanton and removed with his son, Andrew to Monmouth Cave, Kentucky, purchasing land on Green River, near the town of Brownsville, in Warren Co., where he died in 1803. His LWT was signed "Carl Stys". He left his wife, Caty, the use of the plantation with 150 acres of adjoining land. Granted his son, Philip, at wife's death, the whole of all the land and to him and his heirs forever. Exrs: Wife, Caty and Masten Elmore. Date: 2/26/1801. Wits: William Phillips, Philip Jones and William Forkner. Filed at the Court House in Bowling Green, Ky.

His wife was Caty, whom he named in his LWT, who d. 1815 in Warren Co., Ky. Issue:

  • Philip Stice, son of Charles and Caty Steiss, b. ca 1773 Tryon, N. C., died enroute to Kentucky m. Mary Haynes. Lised on 1790 Rutherford Co., N. C. Census at Bills Creek, near Young's Mountain, which is in the northwest portion of Rutherford Co., near Lake Leur. Listed on the 1785 Tax Rolls of Rutherford Co. He was Constable from 1789 to 1792, and served as a juror several times from 1789 to 1792, and was assigned road work from 1789 to 1813. Issue:

    Taylor. James Taylor was born in 1615 at Pennington Castle, 20 miles from Carlisle, England. James settled on the Chesapeake Bay between the York (James) and North Rivers. He died 4/30/1698 in New Kent County, Virginia. He married (1) Frances Walker who died 1680.[12] He married (2) on 8/10/1682, Mary Gregory who died after 1696. Children by 1st wife: James, born 12/27/1668; Martha, born 1670; Colonel James 1674-1729; Sarah, born 6/30/1676 married Powell. Children by second wife: Twins, Anne and Elizabeth born 1684; Mary, born 1686, died infancy; Edmund, removed to Kentucky; John, died infancy; John married Catherine Pendleton (their grandson was John Penn who signed the Declaration of Independence.

    James Taylor, son of James (above) and his wife, Frances Walker, was born 3/14/1674 in New Kent County, Virginia, died 1/23/1729 in Orange County, Virginia, married on 2/23/1699 in Caroline County, Martha Thompson (1679-11/19/1762, daughter of Colonel William or James Thompson. Children: Frances (3/30/1700-10/25/1761) married 8/24/1731 Ambrose Madison; Martha (1/27/1702-11/11/1782) married Thomas Chew; James (3/20/1704-3/1/1784) married (1) Alice Thornton (2) Elizabeth McGrath; Zachary (4/17/1707-1768) married (1) Elizabeth Lee (2) Rachael Gibson; Gorge (2/17/1711-11/4/1792) married Sarah Taliaferro; Tabitha (born 3/2/1713 Orange Co.) married Thomas Wild; Erasmus (9/5/1715-7/19/1796) married 10/13/1749 Jane Moore; Hannah (born 3/15/1718 Orange Co.) married Nicholas Battaile; Mildren (12/11/1724-ca 1795) married 8/24/1753 Richard Thomas; and Hancock Taylor, killed by Indians in 1744.[13]

    Zachary Taylor, the son of James Taylor (above) and wife, Martha (Thompson) Lee, was born 4/17/1707 in Lawrence, Orange County, Virginia and died 1769 in Orange County, Virginia.[14] He was married 1731 in Orange County Elizabeth Lee, born 1709 in Westmoreland County, died 1753 in Orange County, the daughter of Hancock Lee and his wife, Sarah Elizabeth (Allerton) Lee. All of their children were born in Orange County, viz: William (12/19/1735-11/5/1803) married Rhoda; Zachary (died 1796) married 7/20/1771 Alice Chew; Hancock (died 7/1774 in Kentucky, unmarried); Richard (3/22/1744-2/19/1826), died in Jefferson County, Kentucky, married on 8/20/1779 Sarah Dabney Strickland; Elizabeth (died in Kentucky) married Thomas Bell; Thomas and Joseph (born 1750).
