The Gold Dust, Steamboat Disaster of 1882 near Hickman, Kentucky
An explosion of the boiler of the steamer "Gold Dust" on the Mississippi River near Hickman,Kentucky, August 8, at 3 o'clock, August 14, 1882. It burned to the edge of the water and sank. Estimated 24 killed and 48 wounded:

In addition to 18 missing, the following died from wounds since accident:
- Billy Ingram, third cook
- John Lytle, second pantryman
- William Traverse, bar-keeper
- Peter Winter, second porter
- Jim Jerry, captain of the watch
- Walter Howard, roustabout
- Charley Williams, second barber
- Manuel Victor, deck hand.
