Malone, D. L. homicide. Last Saturday evening a difficulty took place between Dr. J. J. Butts and Mr. D. D. Malone at the drug store of Haley & Williams during which time Butts pushed Malone onto the street to fall on the sidewalk and while in this condition Mr. R. M. C. Moore, a friend and employee of Dr. Butts, came up and struck him a blow on te head with a brickhat. The wound bled profusely and it was dressed by competent physicians. Later in the evening it was ascertained that Malone was seriously hurt and having fallen in a stupor near the Masonic building, Sheriff W. P. Stephens had him carried to his office in the Court House for treatment. His wife and daughter were sent for, whose residence is two miles from town, and they remained with him until five o'clock Sunday morning, when Malone died. 11/28/1873. The Marietta Journal.

Munnerlyn, Charles J., Colonel, was born in Georgetown, South Carolina, 14 February 1822. He was educated at Emory College, Oxford, Georgia, and studied law under Judge A. B. Longstreet. The Munnerlyns are of Welsh-Irish origin and are of the old colonial stock which gave the Carolinas their strongly marked character for self-reliance and independent spirit. During the war for independence, Colonel Munnerlyn's grandfather and six of his brothers were in the Revolutionary Army. His parents, Charles Munnerlyn and Hannah Shackleford, were married in Georgetown, South Carolina, and in 1833 removed to Gadsden County, Florida. In 1837 they came to Decatur County, Georgia, where the colonel's father had been a successful planter at the time of his death in 1856. His mother died in 1885. Colonel Munnerlyn was an only child and succeeded to the estate, which included several hundred slaves. He was buried with Masonic honors. Sons: Calhoun, Charles and Paul. Son-in-law: John Bethea. Daughters: Mrs. I. B. English, Mrs. Dr. J. A. Etheridge, both of Macon, Mrs. R. J. Binford and Mrs. J. H. Bethea o f Bainbridge. Ref: The Constitution, Atlanta 22 June 1898
