Hayne, Paul Hamilton, poet. He was born in South Carolina in 1830, and descended from illustrious English ancestry. He was a kinsman of the famous patriot, Colonel Isaac Hayne, who was so cruelly murdered by the British during the Revolution. In 1855, Tickner and Co. published his first volume of poems. He married Miss Mary Middleton Michel of Charleston, the daughter of a famous French surgeon. The war swept away everything the Hayne's had, their home was burned to the ground. Homeless, the family sought refuge in Georgia, at Copse Hill, in Columbia Co., 16 miles from Augusta. Son: William. The Constitution, Atlanta 4/8/1886
