"Died on the 2nd inst., Mr. Britain Rogers, Sr. in his 74th year. He was a native of North Carolina. While young, his father moved to Georgia and settled in Wilkes, now Warren County. He was faithful to the Revolutionary cause though taken a prisoner, starved, iron-bound, threatened with death by hanging if he did not join the British. After his release he was as active as before for the cause of independence. At the close of the war, he settled in Hancock County where he lived highly respected until near the end of 1824 when he moved with his only son to Monroe County, where he died.
