William Mitchell

William Mitchell, son of John Mitchell, was born ca 1750 in Ireland; he married Ruth Jackson, the daughter of Benjamin Jackson. Listed on 1820-1830 Wilkinson County, Georgia Census.

McCall's Roster of the Revolution: " William Mitchell came to America from Ireland, aged 17, landed in Delaware Bay, and settled in Pennsylvania July 3, 1770. He was granted 200 acres of land and settled at Wrightsboro, St. Pauls District, in Georgia."

Revolutionary War Soldiers were disowned by the Quakers at Wrightsboro. In 1784, William Mitchell was granted bounty land of 287 1/2 acres of land in Washington County, later Hancock County. In 1805, he removed to Wilkinson County where he died.
