Hugh McDonald

Hugh McDonald was born 1762 in Scotland, a son of Hugh McDonald of Fayetteville, North Carolina. He was one of the few Scots from the McDonald Clan in Moore County who sided with the Americans. As a result, after the war, there was a vast departure of the Clan back to Scotland.

Battle of Moore's Bridge Hugh McDonald served on the Georgia Line during the Revolutionary Army, first joining at the age of 16 years as a drummer boy. He was included in the Battle of Moore's Mill Bridge in Moore County when the Americans won the battle. February 27, 1776. Interested by-standers looked on, but did not enlist.

After the war, Hugh won land in Elbert County, Georgia for his service in the Revolutionary War.
