"Died at his residence in Jackson County on the 11th ult., of dropsy, Mr. James Glenn in his 74th year. He was born in Hanover County, Virginia, and, when a child was carried by his parents to North Carolina, where his family lived until that State became the scene of General Green's and Cornwallis' operations. Upon seeing a foreign foe laying waste to his country, his youthful heart felt the flames of liberty and he entered the service under General Greene; and on his 15th birthday was in the battle of Guilford Courthouse; was also in the battle at Hobkirk's Mill near Linden, South Carolina. He served two years in the war. He moved to Georgia in 1791, and he same year united with the Methodist Church. Lived to see his wife and nine children and their companions all members of the same church, as well as all of his old-enough grandchildren."
