Jesse Clay

"Another Revolutionary Patriot of Georgia returned to his fathers. Died at his residence in Monticello, near Jasper County, Captain Jesse Clay, age 80 years. A native of Virginia; leaving a wife, a large family, and a numerous circle of friends and acquaintances to deplore his loss. He acted as a Lieutenant in the Revolutionary War etc. He was always esteemed an excellent Whig, and a brave officer. He had a son who bore arms under him, in those times that tried men's souls. He was married in his nineteenth year to the wife who now survives him, with whom he lived for sixty-four years, and by whom he had nineteen children; fifteen sons and four daughters. He was among the first settlers of Jasper County."
