David Cardoza

David N. Cardoza was born in New York City on August 29, 1753. A record of his brith was in the Archives of the Hebrew Congregation of the City of New York. He arrived in Charleston, South Carolina in 1770; enlisted in the war in 1778, served as a Sgt-Major; was at the siege of Savannah in 1779 and the siege of Charleston where he was taken prisoner. He served under Colonel Maurice Simonds, Lt. Colonel Jacob Read, Major Alex Moultrie, Capt. Peter Boquet, First Lieut. Jacob William Graham, 2nd Lt. Phillip Winn, 3rd Lt. John Smith.

On July 13, 1838, Mrs. Sarah Cardoza, widow, age 73, applied for a pension in Charleston, South Carolina, stating that her husband died July 13th, and she was married in 1784. In 1852, the only surviving children were: Jacob N., Judith and Isaac H. Cardoza, and Rachel Seixas.

" Prisoner. Taken prisoner during the siege of Charleston was David Cordoza was born in New York City in 1753, a record of his birth in the Archives of Hebrew Congregation. He removed to Charleston, South Carolina in 1700,thereafter enlisting in the Continental Army in 1778 as Sgt-Major. He was at the siege of Savannah in 1779 and siege of Charleston where he was taken prisoner. Cordoza served with Colonel Maurice Simmonds, Lt. Colonel Jacob Read, Major Alexander Moultrie, Capt. Peter Boquet, First Lt. WilliamGraham, 2nd Lt. Phillip Winn, 3rd Lt. John Smith."
