David Blackshear
"Died at his residence, Springfield, in Laurens County, on July 4th, General David Blackshear. He was born in North Carolina, where, as a boy of 16, he took up arms in defense of liberty and fought valiantly in that struggle. In 1790 he emigrated to Georgia, fought in the Indian Wars with great bravery, and commanded a brigade of Militia in the War of 1812. He was a highly esteemed citizen of his county and State. The Georgia Messenger, dtd 7/13/1837, " General David Blackshear died in Laurens County, July 4th ult., aged 74. He was born in North Carolina and fought in the Revolutionary War at the age of 16."
