William Alexander
William Alexander was born in the city of New York in 1726. He was a Major General in the Continental Army and fought bravely at the battle of Long Island on the 27th of August 1776, where he was taken prisoner. At the battle of Germantown, his brigade was a part of the reserve. At the battle of Monmouth, he commanded the left wing of the American troops and did himself great credit as a brave, discreet, and accomplished officer. This noble veteran died at Albany, New York on January 15, 1783.
